March: A Month in Review

The girls "marched"...well more like model walked their way into this month with lot's of excitement. Our regular programming was filled with exiting activities, new guests and more this month.

Modelling with the Stardale Girls

Part of our role at Stardale is to assist the girls in building up their confidence, unique identity and personal strength. Activities like our modelling program may appear to just be for fun for the girls, but they serve a much deeper purpose then many might think. Teaching the girls the art of carrying yourself as a woman, walking with your head held high and stepping with your best foot forward all help to build up their self esteem and confidence. Their incredible teacher Mellissa helped guide them and share all the insider secrets to the best model walk!

Did you know? One of Stardale initial programs included model walking! You can read more about Stardale history and this program here: https://www.stardale.org/activities-and-accomplishments/honouring-the-girls-stories

Drumming at the Resource Fair and Recovery Church

The Stardale Girls Drumming Group took to the stage in March to share their songs at the International Women's Day Conference at the Calgary Public Library - Main Branch. The audience was in awe of their performance and the girls were so proud to share a piece of their knowledge and talent with the community.

International Women’s Day - Scoops full of support!

This year Village Ice Cream pledged to donate $1 for every scoop sold on International Women’s Day to Stardale Women’s Group and our mission to empower young Indigenous girls. The girls even dropped by to join in on the fun and say that you to the Village team for their kindness and support of our program.

Film Screenings Continue

Stardale has continued our Free Educational Sessions Project connecting viewers all over Canada to all three films in the Stardale film trilogy.

The screenings have been made available for anyone to view and are an excellent opportunity to extend conversations on racism, MMIWG2s+, and reconciliation. Stardale’s film screenings are a safe place to learn about and discuss issues surrounding Indigenous communities in Canada such as racism, violence against women and reconciliation. To give everyone across Canada an opportunity to learn, Stardale is hosting these screenings from now until the end of June.

Upcoming Screening Dates:

April 28th - Shadows in Time - Register

May 1st - The Road - Register

May 5th - The Road - Register

Talking Circles - A Time for Community and Sharing

Our talking circles are always a place of sharing and safety for our girls and community members that join us for discussion. While the discussion topics are often heavy and carry with them serious meaning, the circles always generate deep and heartfelt storytelling, discussions and often actions outside the circle.

Makeup Tutorials - Getting Glammed up!

Many of the Stardale girls enjoy makeup as a hobby so this month we had our very own glam day with the girls. They learned and tested different techniques and products, and you can tell by their faces just how much fun they had experimenting with the different looks.

Fun and Games at the Central Public Library

Another visit to the Central Public Library was in order for the Stardale girls to enjoy a fun Youth Activity Fair organized by CBC. They got to practice their posing on the 360 degree camera and enjoy everything the event had to offer.
