June 2024 - A Month in Review
We wrapped up another amazing year of regular programming at Stardale and kicked off a very fun-filled summer this past month!
CLASS OF 2024 GRADUATION
We celebrated the end of another year of our regular programming and waived a final goodbye to girls graduating the Stardale program this year and going off to do amazing things!
A NEW SUMMER AT THE LANDBASED LEARNING SITE
Dusting off the gardening equipment and preparing for some hard work was on the schedule this month for the Stardale girls. They got to enjoy some lovely days at the land-based learning site roasting marshmallows and prepping the soil for their garden.
CHALK AND TALK
Summer means it’s time for sidewalk chalk and ice cream! This activity is so simple but always a favourite for many of the girls. The group heads down to Village Ice Cream and grabs some scoops for the girls to enjoy. There is something so pure and fun about sidewalk chalk on a summer days and the girls enjoy getting to share their artistic talents with all the passerby's.
NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY 2024 - VOICES OF THE FUTURE EVENT
The women and girls of Stardale came together with our partners at SLB to host an event centered on community, celebration and education. The event included a wonderful array of Indigenous Vendors and a screening of our newest film along with some heartfelt discussions.
NATIONAL INDIGENOUS HISTORY MONTH 2024
As our activities in honour of National Indigenous History Month wind down, we are reminded of the importance of a year-round commitment to advocacy and action. Stardale often participates whether through drumming, film screenings or other efforts in a variety of initiatives during June to champion the empowerment of our young girls. But while the spotlight shifts to the next subject, we urge our community to continue their support and recognition of these amazing young girls as well as their larger community. We believe that when we provide positive, supportive environments for Indigenous young women and girls, we build resilience across generations. We want all of the Indigenous young women and girls we serve to live in a strong, supportive and inclusive community where all Indigenous People have assets to thrive and are equal participants in Calgary’s future and we need the help of our community to continue to make that possible.
