First Class Back - A Talking Circle on Mental Health
A talking circle is a powerful tool for discussing and sharing. To kick off our 2024 classes, Stardale hosted a talking circle focusing on mental health and provided an opportunities for the girls and community members invited to participate to share and reflect.
Making Rattle Sticks with Deb and Butch
This month the girls had a two-class lesson on making rattle sticks from Deb and Butch. The class was a wonderful opportunity for the girls to learn about their Indigenous culture and traditions. Elder Wanda provided an introduction to the activity and shared her knowledge of the materials and techniques used to create rattle sticks, as well as the significance of the rattles in Indigenous ceremonies and rituals. By the end of the first class, each girl had finished crafting their sticks and hanging them to dry.
A Trip to Banff
A few of the girls enjoyed a wonderful and surprisingly warm trip to Banff to enjoy the mountains and get some quiet time outside the hustle and bustle.
Flying Squirrel Fun
Jumping into 2024 in style, a group of girls visited the Flying Squirrel Trampoline park with their mentors. They enjoyed showing off their serious skills and jumping into the foam pit!
Movie Night Magic
Who doesn’t love a good movie night in? The girls enjoyed a home theater movie night complete with popcorn and snacks!
Connecting, Sharing and Reflecting
As the girls begin work on their newest major project for 2024, they took time to discuss and reflect on past projects and Stardale and their themes and connections to the current project. Remembering the work that has been done sets us on a solid foundation for the work to come.
Wrapping up the Rattlesticks
During their second Rattlestick class, the girls finished painting and filling their Rattlesticks.
